Positive Personal & Cultural Identity

Competency Illustrations

I Am Unique

Students worked on a project that allowed them to explore many aspects of their lives to determine what makes them unique. They were asked to share information about any combination of the following topics:

  • Personal beliefs (religion, family, education, morality, humanity)
  • Values - what is most important to you (family, health, the environment, scientific discovery)
  • Preferences (what you like/dislike)
  • Learning style (how you learn best)
  • Skills and talents
  • Contributions (to home, school, community, planet)
  • Culture (food, language, fashion, holidays, customs)
  • Interests and passions
  • Achievements and recognitions

Students were given the option of presenting their information in a format they chose (PowerPoint, poster, movie, song, newscast, create a game, write a book, etc.). Students who struggled with other aspects of school showed remarkable success with this project, as did students who were also successful in other areas.
